After dropping out of school after grade 10 I joined the army but didn't like it so ran away from that and ended up working for Walkaway Shoes in Moose Jaw.  I worked for that company for 10 years in various Saskatchewan cities and then in Winnipeg.  In 1967 I married Jane Swarbrick and now have 3 children and 7 grand children.  Most live in Wpg but our daughter and family live in Alaska.  In 1977 we opened our own small shoe store in Winnipeg selling better grade national brands.  Since then we have added another 26 stores all in major shopping malls across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia under the banners QUARKS, URBAN TRAIL, WEST POINT.  Our 2 sons work in the company and I guess I could say do most of the running of the company at this point.  They still let me know that they appreciate my input which I still enjoy.  We were at the 75 year CCI reunion and will of course be at CCI 100 in 2010.
